We offer a multidisciplinary approach for all of our patients at the Florida Center for Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery. Minimally Invasive Head and Neck Surgeon Aftab H. Patni, M.D.

Aftab's Bio Goes Here. We are pleased to announce the addition of Neurotology to our practice. Dr. Patni joined the group in July 2004. He completed his fellowship at the Michigan Ear Institute and brings the most up-to-date management of hearing loss, dizziness, chronic ear disease, and skull base tumors to the practice.

Minimally Invasive Brain Surgeon and Medical Director Melvin Field, M.D.

Melvin Field, M.D. is a board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally invasive endoscopic brain surgery for various forms of brain disorders including skull base tumors, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Hemifacial Spasm, Acoustic Neuromas and Pituitary Tumors. Dr. Field was the first neurosurgeon to bring endoscopic skull base neurosurgery to the southeast United States and he is nationally recognized as an expert in this field.

In his commitment to helping shape the future of neurosurgery, Dr. Field dedicates some of his time to leadership and education. He serves as the neurosurgical director of Florida Hospital’s neuroscience Institute and the Florida Hospital Gamma Knife Program and is president of the Caribbean Association of Neurological Surgeons. He is also the co-director of the Florida Sports Concussion Program and he is an associate professor at UCF’s Burnett College of Biomedical Sciences. In addition, Dr. Field has led a number of national and international conferences teaching other neurosurgeons his minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques and he has been performing them here in Central Florida since 2003. His current research focuses on minimally invasive techniques to treat deep and dangerous lesions of the brain using image guided, endoscopic, cellular and robotic-based systems.

Dr. Field is a practicing partner of Orlando Neurosurgery where he works with other gifted and compassionate neurosurgeons. He chose Orlando Neurosurgery when he arrived to Central Florida as it provided pre-eminent cutting-edge neurosurgical care that was unparalleled in the region. Since that time, his associates have supported him in his research, clinical and educational endeavors to bring new procedures and technologies to Central Florida that are not currently available anywhere else in the country.

As a sports-enthusiast, one of Dr. Field’s additional interests is in the neurosurgical management of the elite athlete. Dr. Field is passionate about the proper management of sports-related concussion in our youth and aims to provide the same level of care offered athletes in professional sports to our youth here in Central Florida. Dr. Field has been published and lectures on this topic throughout North America and he created the Florida Sports Concussion Program in Orlando back in 2004. Over the past decade, Dr. Field’s work in sports-related concussion has changed the standard in which sports-related concussion are managed in our youth throughout the U.S. and his continued work in this area will hopefully one-day eliminate the potential long term effects that can occur with sport-related concussion.

Dr. Field and his associates at Orlando Neurosurgery have office in Winter Park and Winter Haven, Florida.
